The MGO will be a key member of the BOMA management team and provide leadership in cultivating, stewarding and expanding BOMA's individual and corporate donor base and revenue. Under the guidance of the DSP, the MGO will develop, oversee, and execute strategies for BOMA's ongoing individual and corporate donor engagements and identify and implement campaigns and initiatives to proactively attract new donors. The MGO will manage a portfolio of high-net worth individuals who are BOMA's current donors as well as be responsible for identifying new prospects. The MGO will be responsible for meeting set annual revenue goals and mutually agreed performance metrics. The position is expected to grow BOMA's individual donor revenue and the base of donors annually, and significantly over the next 3-5 years. Responsibilities Develop and implement annual and long-term fundraising plan focused on individual and corporate donors. This plan will be based on and contribute to BOMA's strategic plan and organizational revenue and growth goals annually and in the long-term.
The BOMA Project Founded in 2006, The BOMA Project (BOMA) is a US 501c3 nonprofit and a Kenyan NGO with a proven track record, measurable results, and a transformative approach to alleviating poverty and building resilience in the drylands of Africa. Through a two-year program called the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP), BOMA empowers women entrepreneurs with seed capital, business and life skills training, and confidence to start and grow new businesses. They use their income to feed and educate their children and keep them healthy, build savings to fight the devastating impact of climate change, and to become respected leaders in their patriarchal communities. Position Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships (DSP) and working closely with the Director of Marketing & Communication (DMC), the Major Gifts Officer (MGO) will build, maintain and grow BOMA's individual and corporate donor portfolio to advance the overall fundraising goals of the organization. This position works collaboratively with BOMA's senior leadership, including the CEO, Board of Directors, and leadership staff to coordinate and support donor interactions for maximum engagement and fundraising potential.
Working collaboratively with DSP, CEO, DMC, develop a cohesive fundraising strategy and annual goals for major donors and take steps to move current donors to a higher level of giving. Assess and expand the major gift prospect pool by building relationships, identifying new potential candidates and acting on data and prospect research. Develop and execute an individual and corporate donor engagement strategy that supports BOMA's leadership staff and Board Members to achieve maximum fundraising results. Collaborate with leadership staff, Development Committee, and BOMA Board Members to engage them in the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donor prospects. In close collaboration with the DMC, develop and drive individual fundraising communications strategies, including crafting written and visual materials, such as donor outreach and thank you letter, appeals, digital media content, major donor correspondence, proposals, and reports that are shared with major individual and corporate donors and prospects.
In close collaboration with the DMC, develop and execute a calendar of donor cultivation and stewardship events that engages individual and corporate donors and prospects in the organization's mission and program in strategically viable markets around the country and internationally. Manage and grow a portfolio of major donors and identify opportunities to cultivate, steward, and solicit these donors through regular, ongoing contact, virtual and in-person, and at BOMA events. Actively identify new prospects in multiple markets, including (but not limited to) New York, Washington DC, the New-England region and the West Coast. Develop and put in place a Planned Giving program. Performs other duties as assigned. Skills and Qualifications The ideal candidate is a seasoned fundraising professional with a proven record of managing and growing individual and corporate donor programs, including building and supporting teams dedicated to individual and corporate philanthropy, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
High energy, mature and thoughtful professional with skills and ability to interact, support and work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including BOMA's senior leadership, board members, donors, volunteers, program participants, and other supporters. Location Flexible. This is a US based fully remote work position with flexibility to be based on the East or the West Coast of the country. Salary is commensurate with experience. At least 7-8 years of individual/major donor cultivation, stewardship experience, ideally with a nonprofit entity, is required. Experience with global development related topics a plus. Additionally, the ideal candidate will be: Mission driven, self-starter, results oriented professional with collaborative style. A professional with strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and comfortable with metrics-based approach to fundraising. Experienced in developing and implementing fundraising campaigns, events and strategies with excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills. Knowledgeable in contemporary trends and techniques in fundraising and marketing, particularly digital marketing and advanced knowledge of current technologies used in strategic marketing including web-based software and Constituent Relationship Management (CRM) software. Proactive, well-organized individual capable of leading multiple projects/initiatives simultaneously. Strong manager of projects and processes from start to finish, including ongoing analysis of impact and results.
